When I first noticed this book, I knew that I would have to read it. Demonic possession with heavy dose of eighty’s references were enough to really grab the attention of this old girl. Unfortunately, despite the wonderful premise I discovered the book rather underwhelming.

A few years back you couldn’t watch half-hour of primary cable with out seeing three ads advertising “tingling” lubes to straight couples. These lubes were touted like they were a revolutionary new means, as one KY ad put it, “to turn up the warmth” in your intercourse life. First of all, I bear in mind seeing bottles of “hot lube” in sex retailers and on the nightstands of my first boyfriends again when I came out in the Nineteen Eighties.

The 80’s references were plentiful and fun with out going overboard, although most of them in all probability went over my head. Abby’s devotion to her finest pal was also touching, the means in which she never gave up on Gretchen despite the awful issues that occurred. From the chapter titles that are all 80s song titles, to the pages rife with popular culture references from the Eighties, this e-book is a superb tribute to all that made that period so memorable.

And that’s what I’ll finest remember in regards to the e-book – it is a story a couple of strong friendship, and the way its bonds are examined by all kinds of outside components during certain years. I never felt any type of connection to Abby or Gretchen.

It would be correct to say I had fairly excessive expectations for this book. The novel’s description is a bit sparse, however owing from my experience with Horrorstör, I figured we might be getting one other story mixed with humor and horror. In this, I felt like I was slightly off the mark. In the tip, I didn’t really discover it to be all that humorous—darkly or otherwise—but it was positively horrific.

This is 100% a “#bookstagram made me do it” read. The alternate cowl is gorgeous VHS 80s goodness. And the yearbook format print that I had was goddamn lovable. I actually read every single message written on the again and front covers with unabashed nerdy glee.

This was a wonderful story about friendship and staying connected by way of it all, even involving demon possession. His horror themed speculative fiction can also be fairly good.
